About Us
A message from Parveen Dhupar
Life is about change, constantly learning and challenging ourselves to improve. People Who Give is an evolution of 100 Guys Who Care, 100 Women Who Care and 100 People Who Care. Over the last 4 years I was a contributing member of the these groups and I noticed several challenges, some which included:
- We could never get to 100 people. The most we had was around 60 people, and that was when we did a joint event between the women and guys groups.
- People would have to commit to being a member of the group, which meant you had to attend 4 sessions and if you could not attend any session you were still obliged to donate $100 towards the chosen charity.
- The presentations started to shift from a member presenting about a charity to members bringing the charity representative to speak directly to the group. We had a mix of styles in presentations making it difficult to pick one winner.
- Many times we would have only one charity there to present and it was usually a representative from the charity. We would then frantically try to get 2 people on the spot to speak on other deserving charities so that we could have a vote between 3 charities. Often the charity that came prepared would not win, leaving a negative feeling.
- Organizing fell on a few people and they did not have the time and resources to run the events effectively with marketing, registration, regular communication, event management and more.
After consultation with many past members to understand what was working and not working, we ran a virtual 100 People Who Care event during COVID-19 as a pilot to address these challenges. One of the changes was to have my team at BTI Brand Innovations take care of all the planning, organizing, marketing, logistics and onsite event management. This way we could give back time to our volunteers, allowing them to enjoy the event, all while learning, meeting new people in the community and donating to a charity in need.
Thanks to the generosity of our participants, we achieved a new benchmark for maximum participation at a single event in the history of 100 People Who Care; with 74 virtual participants having donated a total amount of over $8,721 between the 3 presenting charities. Responses to our post event surveys were magnificent. 100% participants felt that the new approach and proposed changes were progressive and considerate. Participants’ encouragement inspired BTI Brand Innovations to rebrand the program as “People Who Give”. We pledge to work relentlessly to make a big impact on charities in the community while increasing their exposure.
If this looks like something you want to be a part of, then register for our mailing list today! There is no commitment to being a member or having to attend all the sessions. Participate as often as you like, meet people in the community, learn about charities in need, make an impact by giving any amount of your choice to 1, 2, or all 3 charities.
How We Work
- Each participant is welcome to donate as much as they can per event, four times a year. No amount is too small. Your gesture and support matters.
- Events are conducted in approximately 90 minutes.
- Any participant willing to nominate a charity for presentation at an event can reach out to us directly so that we can prepare the charity in advance for future events.
- Three eligible charities will be selected in advance and will be ready to present at each event.
- A representative from the selected charities will make a 5-minute brief presentation about the charity and how the funds collected will be used.
- Each participant will then select one, two or all three presenting charities.
- Each participant will donate as much as they can online from their smartphone, issue a cheque or give cash directly to the charity.
- No need to choose one charity over the other. All presenting charities will be winners. No one leaves disappointed.
- Participants will receive a tax receipt directly from each recipient charity in due course.
- Participants who are unable to attend an event can learn about the presenting charities and make a donation online to one, two or all three of the selected charities.
- Presenting charities must serve the local community and provide individual tax receipts directly to contributing participants.
- The presenting charity must agree not to give out participants’ information to any third parties except for tax purposes.
- We encourage all participants to attend our quarterly People Who Give events. Together we can make a difference. No amount is too small, but your gesture will help local charities in a big way.
- meet.
- network.
- learn.
- give.

Presentation Tips for Charities
The most effective presentation is one that is informal and simple. The more information you can provide is great but remember you only have 5 minutes.
Here is a list of topics that charity representative should be prepared to discuss:
- What is the name of the organization?
- Where is the organization located?
- What is the mission of the organization?
- What purpose does the organization serve? (who are you? what do you do? how do you do it?)
- How would the organization benefit from receiving the donation?
- How will the funds be used?
- What other sources of funding does the organization have (i.e. how needy is the organization)?
- Can you issue tax receipts?
- If chosen to present, to whom would the group make a donation payable to?
- Describe your personal interactions with the organization or how you learned of the organization.
